Every player gets a percentile for each metric, from 0 to 100, compared with players in the same role and level. A ranking is the weighted average of the percentiles you choose, so a score of 90 means he sits in the top 10% of his peers across those metrics.
A centre-back and a winger do very different jobs. Comparing a winger with other wingers, and elite-league players with other elite-league players, keeps the numbers fair. The role comes from where he actually lines up in matches, not just his listed position.
Form weights his recent club matches most heavily, so it reacts quickly to a hot or cold run. Season uses only this club season. International matches are left out of both.
